The theme for this month's ArchiTalks is Citizen Architect. The American Institute of Architects defines a citizen architect as someone who uses his/her insights, talents, training, and experience to contribute meaningfully, beyond self, to the improvement of the community and human condition.
I felt like the best way I could contribute to this theme is by helping to spread the word on flood relief efforts in South Carolina.
The need for citizen architects in South Carolina is at its greatest following the record setting rains and subsequent flooding caused by Hurricane Joaquin. Many have lost everything and the recovery efforts have just begun.
The Post and Courier did a great job at organizing many of the recovery efforts here:
Another great resource:
My colleagues at AIA Charleston have told me that there is a great need for architects, engineers and contractors to help with damage assessment. I will be posting this information as soon as it is available.
In the meantime, I hope you will consider a donation to one of the recovery funds listed in the above link.
Thanks for your help.
I hope you will also check out how my fellow ArchiTalks bloggers who have responded to the Citizen Architect theme.
