Great architecture must have great details. Just like a great shoe is not complete without fine stitching.
When construction began on our home addition I thought that I had a very comprehensive set of construction drawings. However it is inevitable that design questions will arise during construction that need to be answered with supplemental sketches.
And my home was no different.
I have shared a lot of pretty pristine pictures of our home but in this post I will share some of the things that were not so pretty. I will share some of the sketches and process photos of some of my favorite details.
I hope that this post gives you a greater appreciation for the design process and maybe a little bit of inspiration for your next project.Read More
I think that all architect's are optimists. I feel like you have to be to excel at this job. Being an optimist came in handy when searching for our first house. And it definitely helped in the process of transforming our fixer upper into the home that it has become. This is the final chapter to Our Home Addition. It has been a wild ride. A ride that I have documented quite thoroughly on BUILDINGS ARE COOL. In this article I share some final pictures of the transformation as well as some new videos.
Thanks for joining us on this ride!Read More
Our home addition has been a wild ride but it is almost over. I am happy to say that we will be ready to host Thanksgiving at our house in our new dining room. For 16 people! This month’s #ArchiTalks theme is Work/Life. For architects separating your professional work from your personal life is always a challenge. And if you are an architect living in a house you have designed that challenge is even harder. Now imagine that you are living within a construction zone of a house you designed. In my current existence, separating Work and Life is impossible.
3 weeks into the 10 week construction of our new home addition and it seems to be flying by.
Last week was the most gratifying as it was the week that they framed the exterior walls. Now we can really see the scale of the new building and start to imagine how the individual rooms will feel.Read More
